What To Expect From Psychotherapy

Open Ended Treatment
As a qualified psychotherapist based in Exeter, Henry Averill offers a safe and private space where you can begin to talk through the nature and extent of the difficulties you are facing in a non-judgemental and supportive atmosphere.

Initial Consultations

The initial consultations give you a sense of what psychotherapy might involve. At times it can bring up painful emotions or difficult memories, but expressing your feelings and thoughts in words can also bring relief and a sense of hope.

Deciding About Psychotherapy

These initial sessions are there to help you consider whether psychodynamic therapy feels like the right approach for your needs. Afterwards, you may feel ready to begin, or you may decide you want more time to reflect, or to consult with other therapists. Sometimes it is agreed that a longer assessment period or a trial of therapy is the best way forward.

How Long Does Psychotherapy Last?

The length of therapy varies and cannot be predicted at the beginning. For some people, it lasts several months, while for others it continues for a number of years.

Duration

Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually held at the same time and on the same day each week. Depending on your needs, sessions may take place once a week or up to four times a week.

Fees

My usual fee is £60 per session.

I occasionally have a limited number of low fee spaces which can be discussed.
